Casperson seeks to honor lives impacted by cancer

ESCANABA — Former state senator and cancer fighter, Tom Casperson, is asking Upper Peninsula residents to support the battle against cancer by honoring those who have been touched by the disease.

This summer, communities across the state will honor lives affected by cancer with Lights of Hope. Michigan American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) volunteers are spreading the word about their Lights of Hope campaign by raising money to hold a “virtual trip” around the state through their Michigan Lights of Hope Tour.

“I’ve seen firsthand the effects of this awful disease on my loved ones, and now through my own cancer journey. I’m happy to support organizations like ACS CAN and honor others who have fought this battle.” Tom remarked.

By purchasing a Lights of Hope bag, you can honor someone who is battling cancer, a survivor, a cancer caregiver or remember someone who lost their battle. Every bag purchased will equal two miles traveled across the state. The journey started at the Mackinac Bridge and is now making its way around the beautiful Upper Peninsula before crossing the bridge and going around the mitten.

For details on how to dedicate a Lights of Hope bag, please contact Ashley Wakefield, Tom’s daughter at ashleymwakefield@gmail.com or donate to: http://action.fightcancer.org/goto/AshleyWakefield.
