Delta County Unified gathering

ESCANABA — Today, Delta County Unified will host MacKenzie Walz from Promote the Vote at the Bay College Heirman Center, Room 952. MacKenzie will speak about voting rights, election security and proof of citizenship. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the event will start promptly at 6 p.m.

St. Charles Church pasty sale

RAPID RIVER — St. Charles Church in Rapid River will be selling fresh pasties today. Pickup is from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Parish Center. Preorder now for Memorial Day.

Menominee Co. Democratic Party general meeting

MENOMINEE — Today, the Menominee County Democratic Party will hold their general meeting at Spies Public Library’s, 940 1st Street, ground floor meeting room (behind front desk) and via Zoom. The meeting will take place at 5:30 to 6:50 p.m., with hors d’oeuvres and socializing at 5 p.m.

The group welcomes community members to bring friends eager to support Democracy and the U.S. Constitution to attend and share. People aged 30 years and younger may join for free. Members may vote during meetings.

Discussion includes local billboards, food bank contributions, monthly and upcoming events, Stephenson’s Library in Bloom event, volunteer opportunities, Menominee County Fair and always a brief report on what all Michigan and U.S. Congress members and the Attorney General are working on.

Habitat golf tournament

IRON MOUNTAIN — Habitat for Humanity’s Menominee River branch is holding its “Raise the Roof” golf outing on Thursday at TimberStone.

Money from sponsors and entrants goes toward helping neighbors perform needed repairs on their homes.

Lakeview accepting items for rummage sale

ESCANABA — Lakeview Cemetery is accepting donations for its annual rummage sale. People may make drop-offs to 2110 Third Avenue South in Escanaba from now until Saturday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

To have items picked up from the donor’s home, people may call Sharon at 906-553-2403. No clothes, mattresses or electronics will be accepted. The rummage sale will be in early June. Lakeview thanks the public in advance.

Gladstone Schools teen driver safety night

GLADSTONE — Gladstone Area Schools will be having a teen driver safety night on Tuesday, May 26 starting at 6 p.m. in the Gladstone High School parking lot. All Delta County teens are invited to attend.

Public Safety officers will show teens what happens during a traffic stop. Youth has the opportunity to practice real-life scenarios with an officer and talk about distracted driving. Each participating student will receive a hands-free phone holder and a chance to win gift cards donated by Harlie’s Angels non profit.

Beekeepers’ meeting

RIVERLAND — On Wednesday, May 27, the Bay de Noc Beekeeping Club will meet at Shaun Carignan’s bee yard at 6 p.m. The address is 7144 G.5 Lane in Riverland in Wells Township. Attendees should bring protective gear as the group will be doing hive splits. Public welcome.

Vinyl record show at the Landmark Inn

MARQUETTE — A three-day vinyl record show will be held on the 6th floor “Sky Room” of the Landmark Inn, 230 N. Front Street in downtown Marquette on Friday, May 29 from 5 p.m. to midnight; Saturday, May 30 from 11 a.m. to midnight; and Sunday, May 31 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thousands of new and used vinyl records, CDs, posters, cassettes, books and t-shirts will be available for purchase.

Delta Dems to meet

ESCANABA — The Delta Dems will be hosting a speaker at their general meeting on Wednesday, June 3 at the USW Hall, 1201 Sheridan Rd., Escanaba and on Zoom. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m.

Delta County Republicans meeting

ESCANABA — The Delta County Republicans will be meeting on Thursday, June 4 in the BHAT Building, Room 421 at Bay College in Escanaba. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include discussion of local issues, upcoming events and ways to get involved. The public is welcome to attend.

The Delta County Republicans will also be sponsoring a Flag Day celebration picnic on June 14 at the Veteran’s Memorial Park at U.S. 2 in Powers. The picnic starts at 12 p.m. CST and is a family-centered picnic to celebrate the United States flag. Food will be available as well as games, music and a bake sale.

U.P. Steam & Gas Engine Antique Village

ESCANABA — The U.P. Steam & Gas Engine Association’s Antique Village will be offering two sewing classes on Thursdays in June (4, 11, 18 and 25). Students at least nine years old and adults are welcome.

Four one-hour classes will be offered — level one is for beginners, and level two is intermediate. Both levels meet for an hour on each Thursday and will be offered concurrently at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT.

Pet supply drive

ESCANABA — Menards is serving as a drop site for donations of pet supplies — food, treats, feeders, collars, beds and more — that will be donated to the Humane Association. A collection box will be near the exit doors of the Escanaba store at 3300 Ludington St. until May 31.

Gladstone Class of ’76 reunion

GLADSTONE – The Gladstone High School Class of 1976 will be holding their 50th High school class reunion July 2 at the Gladstone Golf club. Please refer to the class’ facebook page for more details: GHS Class of 1976 Reunion.

ESCANABA — The Holy Name Class of 1966 has scheduled its 60th reunion for Sept. 12 at the Escanaba Elks Club starting at 4 p.m.

Escanaba Class of ’76 reunion

ESCANABA — The Escanaba High School Class of 1976 has scheduled its 50th reunion for Sept. 26 at the Highland Golf Course.

A schedule of events for the weekend and registration materials will be provided on the class Facebook page, Escanaba Class of 1976, or by email.

American Legion post collecting unserviceable flags

GLADSTONE — American Legion Post 71, 802 Delta Ave. in Gladstone, is currently collecting damaged, unserviceable flags for proper disposal (container/post box located outside of post).

In Honor of USA 250 Project, the post is hoping to collect 250 flags before their “Dignified Disposal of Unserviceable Flags” on Flag Day, June 14th. If you live in Escanaba, you can drop the flags off at 2516 1st Ave S., near or in the mail box. Questions may be directed to Sandy at 702-340-567.

Donations sought for book sale

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival. Funds from the sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.

Large print books are often requested.

Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league’s sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.

Delta County Cancer Alliance seeks Donations

ESCANABA — The Delta County Cancer Alliance (DCCA) is in need of bed pads. Many of the DCCA’s clients who are going through cancer treatments appreciate the convenience of using bed pads for comfort and cleanliness at a very challenging time. The DCCA will accept donations at their office, 3430 Ludington St, Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Delta Animal Shelter requests donations

ESCANABA — The Delta Animal Shelter is in need of the following donations: Purina Cat Chow (blue bag), Purina Kitten Chow (yellow bag), NutriSource chicken/rice dog food, Purina One chicken/rice dog food, canned dog food, canned cat/kitten food, soft dog treats, scoopable cat litter, clay cat litter, bleach, liquid Lysol, paper towels, dish soap, garbage bags, power laundry detergent, hand sanitizer, dog collars/leashes, rabbit food and hay.

Monetary donations would be exceptionally helpful, especially with the amount of medical and police cases.

Donations can be dropped off at the shelter, 6975 County Road 426, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or outside the building in the donation box.

Gladstone church offers clothing

GLADSTONE — The Memorial United Methodist Church, 1920 Lake Shore Drive in Gladstone, has a free clothes closet with coats, and shoes available in most sizes. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays or by appointment by calling 906-428-9311. Donations are also accepted.
