Hunters have option to donate venison

ESCANABA — Successful deer hunters have the option to donate their venison to help feed the hungry.

The Venison Project was started 27 years ago by Barb Nemacheck and has collected 32,000 pounds of venison for the needy. To donate a deer, field dress it and take it to Steve Soderman’s Meat Processing on Days River Road in Brampton or to Viau’s Market in Escanaba. If the deer is skinned, hunters can take it to Garden Mini Mart. All three places – Steve Soderman’s, Viau’s, and Garden Mini Mart — will process the meat for free, so there is no cost to the hunter. Be sure to tell them it is for the Memorial Church Venison Project. The meat is given to food pantries in Escanaba and Gladstone. Questions may be directed to Teresa Myers at 280-8172.
