Melvin Stein

GLADSTONE — Melvin Stein, age 99, of the Gladstone Lake Bluff Retirement Community, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Melvin was born on March 2, 1925 in Chicago, the son of Max and Pearl Stein.

Melvin grew up in Chicago and attended Roosevelt University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting. He enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Hawaii. He married the former Patricia Caron on June 3, 1978 at the House of Ludington in Escanaba. They shared 46 wonderful years together. They lived in Illinois until retiring to Sarasota, Fla. and then on to the Upper Peninsula. He was an avid reader, especially of history books, and enjoyed watching baseball and football. Melvin is survived by the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” Stein; brother-in-law, Tom (Gayle) Caron; and niece, Emily Rose (Kyle) Ash.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Max and Pearl Stein, siblings Claire Kole, Erwin Stein and Ray Stein, and mother and father-in-law Helen and Walter Caron.
