Flags to be collected in Manistique

MANISTIQUE — Members of the community are invited to join the Schoolcraft All Vets in the recovery of America Flags currently marking the final resting place of deceased veterans in Schoolcraft County cemeteries.

Those interested and capable, are requested to meet at the VFW Hall on Maple Street in Manistique, at 9 a..m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, for assignment. Appropriate attire for the weather is suggested. Rain day is Sunday Sept. 9.

Schoolcraft County cemeteries holding the remains of veterans include Lakeview, Fairview, Hiawatha Township, Woods, Blaney Park, Old Germfask, Riverside at Germfast and Seney.

The Schoolcraft All Vets is a loose organization comprised of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 26, The American Legion Post 83, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4420.

The flags have flown day and night, through sun and storm, since May 19; and are worn and tattered. They will be retired by burning, following collection.
