OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group welcomes new providers
ESCANABA — OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group announces the addition of three new providers to continue to serve the health needs of the community.
Pediatrician Chasity Caperton, MD, has joined the family medicine and pediatrics practice in Suite 103 of the OSF Medical Group in Escanaba. Dr. Caperton earned a bachelor of science from the University of Southern Mississippi and her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Mississippi. She completed her residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Following nearly a decade of serving families in Mississippi, Dr. Caperton relocated to the Upper Peninsula and has been practicing pediatrics in the area for three years. With the addition of Dr. Caperton, OSF Medical Group in Escanaba now features two pediatricians to serve those patients age 18 and under.
Otolaryngologist David Heichel, MD, with Superior Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists of Marquette, has begun seeing patients one week a month in Suite 206 of the OSF Medical Group in Escanaba. Dr. Heichel earned a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Grove City College in Pennsylvania and was then commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. After earning a master of science degree in electrical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (AFB) in Ohio, he served as a flight test engineer and taught at the United States Air Force Academy. He attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine to earn his Doctor of Medicine degree. Upon completion, he continued to serve in the Air Force, as a Medical Corps officer, completing a surgery internship and providing care as a flight surgeon and Chief of Flight Medicine for the 12th Medical Group Group at Randolph AFB, Texas. His next assignments were as a resident in otolaryngology, a staff otolaryngologist, and then as the vice chairman of the Otolaryngology Department, all at the 59th Medical Wing, Lackland AFB, Texas, before retiring from military service to enter private practice in the Upper Peninsula, since 2004. Board certified sleep medicine provider John A. Sand, DO, ABSM, FAAFP, began seeing patients the week of August 8 at the family medicine practice in Suite 103 of the OSF Medical Group in Escanaba. In addition to sleep medicine, Dr. Sand is also board certified in family medicine. He earned a bachelor of science from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in school psychology from the University of Detroit and a Doctor of Osteopathy from Michigan State University. He began practicing sleep medicine at the Oscar G. Johnson Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Facility in Iron Mountain, where he served veterans for 12 years. He went on to provide sleep medicine services at Dickinson Community Healthcare System prior to joining OSF HealthCare.
Dr. Sand will lead the team of registered sleep technicians who conduct sleep studies at the OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group Sleep Diagnostic Center accredited by American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).
