DeRidders celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

ESCANABA — On June 9, 2018, Tom and Shirley DeRidder of Escanaba celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Their family attended Mass at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish, followed by a dinner at the Stonehouse. A family trip to Hawaii is planned for the near future.

Tom and Shirley were married June 8, 1968 at St. Joseph’s Church in Foster City, Mich.

Tom is a retired teacher, having taught school for 36 years. He taught four years in Crystal Falls, Mich. and 32 years at Escanaba High School, where he taught social studies.

Shirley was a secretary for Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. in Iron Mountain and a secretary at Odgers Drilling in Crystal Falls. After moving to Escanaba, she did daycare for 29 years before retirement as a teacher aide at Holy Name School.

They are proud parents of two children, Marc and Kari. Marc and Krista DeRidder live in Kimberly, Wis. and are the parents of three children, Maria, Zachary and Rachel. Kari and Jim Lacny live in Zeeland, Mich., and have two children, Annie and Charlie.

Tom and Shirley especially enjoy spending time with their family. During the winter they enjoy spending time in Florida, taking along their golden retriever Sammy.
