GLADSTONE — The Fran Cannon Firecracker five and 2½-mile run is taking place here July 4. Also included is a 2½-mile walk and a one-mile kids’ run. Entry fee is $35 for the five-mile run, $30 for the 2½-mile run and $20 for the walk. The kids’ run, which begins at 8 a.m., costs $15 to enter. The other events start at 8:15. Race material can be picked up at the large pavilion across from the State Police post July 2 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Raceday registration also takes place prior to the races at the same location. Gregg Johnson /Al Erickson Memorial Tournament set for this weekend

ESCANABA — The Gregg Johnson/Al Erickson Memorial tournament will take place this weekend with 10 teams making the trip. Games will be played on Friday and Saturday at The Bay College Field in Wells and Al Ness Field in Escanaba. The semifinals and championship game will take place at Al Ness Field on Sunday. The 10 teams are split into two pools. Pool A consists of Escanaba, Niagra, Kewaunee County, Sheboygan and Sault Ste Marie. Pool B consists of Marinette, Plover, Kingsford, Soo Black Sox and Negaunee. Plover has had a great deal of success at this tournament over the years ...
