Commissioner’s comments

EDITOR: Every time I think the Delta County Board of Commissioners cannot possibly do anything more outrageous, they prove me wrong. The meeting of July 18 was yet another example of why three of our sitting commissioners need to go. The bigotry, racism, and hatred that Commissioners Barron, Moyle, and Petersen exhibited in their failure to pass a resolution of supporting UPCAP’s plan for providing services to the area’s elderly population may have reached a new low. UPAAA submitted a 50-page document outlining their plan for providing these services -- services essential to the ...

Recall effort

EDITOR: In response to LeeAnne Oman of the Delta County Republican Committee dated 7/20/23, I have some thoughts and opinions. The irony of this statement I hope is not lost on me. “Traditionally, in a civil society, the loser of contest is not allowed destroy the winner. The loser goes home and the winner takes the prize.” The leader of the Republican Party in the United States has been crying since he lost in 2020 and trying to destroy anyone who he feels wronged him. There were 20 recall efforts launched against Governor Whitmer in 2020. An additional 14 in ...

Support for commissioners

EDITOR : Delta County residents The clarity hearing of the recall petitions for Commissioners Barron, Moyle and Petersen found that the language was clear, factual and referred to an action that occurred in the current term. What it did not do was judge the merit of the statement. According to County Boards of Commissioners (excerpt) Act 156 of 1851 Chapter 46.11 Powers of board of commissioners. Sec. 11(O) in Michigan State Law, the Commissioners acted within their scope of authority, when they fired the administrator. To anyone who reads the letters to the editor, attends the ...

History garden

EDITOR: This letter is in response to Ms. Karen Moore’s snarky response at the last council meeting, “It’s easier to get a pot store in Escanaba than a garden.” Well, Ms. Moore those pot stores had a process to follow regarding guidelines. They had to submit the legal paperwork with documentation…not just, “I have an idea!” You started out with an idea for “history garden” with not even a drawing or how you were going to fund or maintain this “history garden.” You still haven’t applied for grant money for this new idea for the “history garden” or ...

County board recall

EDITOR: Dear Delta County Community voters, A few disappointed election losers are attempting to recall three Delta County commissioners, for doing their jobs. After she spoke to all of them in an extremely disrespectful tone during a public meeting, the board had no choice but to terminate her employment, as any sensible, functioning board would have done. This is the reason for the recall, which will cost taxpayers many thousands of dollars. Recall organizers will tell you that they have bipartisan support. I do not believe that to be true. Despite the attacks upon their ...

Two plus two

EDITOR: Many have grown tired of political organizations pounding a narrative that is not true. I suppose they believe if something is continually displayed, people will eventually believe the lie. For several years we have been inundated with commercials and not-so-subtle messages displayed on football helmets and basketball uniforms. Unity, Equality, Justice, Tolerance and BLM have been displayed incessantly. Each of these words and phrases imply prejudice is still rampant in our culture. Even President Biden has recently said, “the #1 problem in America is white supremacy!” What ...
