Illegal immigration

EDITOR:

The autumnal equinox has passed, and fall is upon us. Leaves are turning color and there is a nip in the air. Some parts of the U.P. have already had frost. Time to shake the mothballs out of the warm-woolies.

Consider this scenario… A couple bus loads of perhaps 100 illegal aliens each pull into downtown Escanaba… “here ya go! Welcome to da U.P.” If you have watched the thousands of people illegally crossing our southern border (10K yesterday I’ve heard), you’ve noticed they have no possessions and minimal ability at best to communicate. Might as well be naked too for all they can carry for themselves. This has happened in other cities.

They require proper clothing, compatible food, shelter and help assimilating into our community. Imagine a long-lost relative from “Whatsiztan” arrives at your doorstep seeking asylum and you now must supply the aforementioned amenities. “Sure…” you think “at least they didn’t bring their family”… uh, yet. Multiply this by 100 and you’re left with the same situation as has befallen many smaller towns in this country. Are we next? As compassionate people we would do our best to help, but the resources of food, shelter, schooling and medical aid become burdensome for the local budget.

There is nothing positive about this scenario. “Not possible here” you might say… yeah. The Biden administration hasn’t spread the “wealth” of communities – they’ve spread woe to them via their policies.

Before this happens, efforts should be aimed at diverting a serious financial strain on our residents. I imagine the best of our good intentions would be sadly inadequate.

We should approach this scenario as the potential emergency it will be. Planning for this eventuality should address the areas of food, shelter, clothing, education, medicine, etc. How many people can we accommodate without securing extra resources? The combined powers-that-be of Delta County should come up with a series of contingency plans. What if it escalates without any government assistance (inadequate no doubt). Winter is coming.

One approach could be to divert these people to other cities with greater, transient populations which could more easily accommodate them due to economies of scale in all the above necessities. Large college towns… Lansing, East Lansing, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, etc. would be more able to provide aid.

This isn’t cruel, it is more humane than the random and mindless distribution of people throughout the country practiced by the heartless administration of Biden and his ministers. All political divisions in the county should instruct their emergency management personnel to review, revise, and if necessary, modify their emergency management plans to prepare for this scenario.

And for those of you acting as apologists for the illegal aliens “just seeking to better their life”, you should consider that the basic motivation of all criminals is just that.
