Recall effort

EDITOR :

The group seeking to recall three county commissioners has stated that we are being recalled because of unethical behavior. They’ve indicated that if there was any chance for change, there would be no recall needed.

Let me put things into context, I was elected chairman of the board on January 3 of 2023. By January 25 three weeks later, Kelly VanGinhovens put two letters to the editor in the Daily Press claiming I was doing a terrible job as chairman. Really, after three weeks, that doesn’t give me much of a learning curve.

Citizens for Ethical Leadership in Delta County is a Facebook page that claims they seek ethical leadership. According to Cristiana Reynolds the firing of Emily DeSalvo was a flashpoint for citizens. She indicated that the citizens were unhappy with other decisions that we made as a commission. We had only been in office one month, and had two meetings prior to Emily Desalvo’s termination. I invite you to watch the recording of that public meeting February 7 of 2023. Emily DeSalvo called three of her five bosses unethical, unprofessional, and liars, she accused me of forgetting my oath of office.

Try that with your boss, call him a liar, or call her unethical and unprofessional. You will end up unemployed. The real issue regarding this recall is Kelly van Ginhoven’s refusal to accept the the election results of November 2022. Her campaign started on November 9, and many of her supporters on the left are attempting to create so much chaos at the county level, that the voters will throw the baby out with the bathwater. I have done my business over these past seven months as chairman the same way I have been a commissioner over these past 13 years. As a servant to the people of Delta County, I am no more unethical now than I was in 2010. The real difference is that the politics of personal destruction have made their way to Delta County.

Their playbook was written by Saul Alinsky, a book called rules for radicals, if you tell a lie long enough it’ll become the truth, and accuse the other side of what you’re doing. There is a reason why I am fighting this recall, the people of Delta County put me in office for seventh term. They wouldn’t have put me in office for the previous six terms if I was unethical or corrupt. It has been my privilege to serve the citizens of Delta County for these past 13 years, it is my hope that as a county you will rebuke the hate parade that has found its way to the county board meetings. A group that will stop at nothing to achieve its political objectives, including damaging the county or splitting the community in half, if it doesn’t get its way.

I for one am disgusted by the way they are acting at our board meetings.
