Democrats hold meeting in Stephenson

STEPHENSON — The Menominee County Democratic Party met on Aug. 8 at the Annex in Stephenson. A “county convention” was held at the beginning of the meeting in which a resolution was passed that called for the establishment of a satellite convention site in the Upper Peninsula. This would enable Democrats north of the Mackinac Bridge to participate and vote in the state convention without the expense of driving to and securing lodging in Detroit.

Menominee County Clerk Marc Kleiman presented the results of the primary election on Aug. 7 and announced which candidates would be appearing on the ballot for the mid-term election in November. The party also agreed to open and staff a Democratic Party Headquarters at the UAW Union Hall at 1801 13th Avenue in Menominee, MI beginning on Sept. 11. The headquarters will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 6 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 12 p.m. Area residents are invited to drop by during these times to pick up informational brochures on the Democratic candidates and/or to ask questions.

The next meeting of the Menominee County Democratic Party will also be held at the UAW Union Hall in Menominee on Sept. 11 — not at the Annex in Stephenson. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.
