GLADSTONE — It was a tight race for the boys’ track and field title here Thursday as the Escanaba boys became repeat winners in the Gladstone Invitational by edging Rapid River 137-134. The host Braves placed third with 125 points. The Gladstone girls won for the fourth consecutive time with 172 points. They were followed by Manistique 157 and Esky 79. WELLS — The Bay College Norse picked up their second win of the season here Thursday as they defeated Delta College 15-8 in game two and dropped game one 8-5. Harrison Haigh posted four runs on three hits in the contest including a two-run home run in the first inning of game two to put the Norse up 2-0. “He got the scoring going for us in that game,” Norse coach Mike Pankow said. “He has been struggling with an injury and today he showed what we know he can do when he is fully healthy.” The Norse collected 14 hits in the game while the Pioneers had 10 hits. BARK RIVER — A nine-run fourth inning proved to be too much for the Bark River-Harris Broncos as they dropped game one to Superior Central 16-4 and responded in game two ending on a 6-6 tie. The Cougars got on the board in the top of the first when Eli Varma drew a walk to score a run.
