BARK RIVER -- This August marks the 50th Anniversary of the Bark River Off-Road Races. The event has continued to grow over the years and this year’s show will be a 3-day show starting on Friday August 14th and wrapping up on Sunday August 16th.
19 classes will compete over the weekend with drivers of all ages taking part in the event.
"50 years for an organization doing something is always an important milestone," Race Director Scott Kwarciany said. "You look at all the off-road tracks that have been around for a long time like Crandon has been going for 57 years and we are proud here at Bark River to have had a long history of putting on races for our community."
In addition to the racing there will be bands on Thursday after the practice and after the races on Friday and Saturday.
The band Bad Timing will play on Thursday at 8pm and country group Bella Cain will play on Friday with the River Rats to follow and The OZ Band will perform on Saturday night.
The Richard Ault Legacy Long Jump will take place on Friday at 6:00pm and is an event that is very anticipated coming into the race weekend.
"This is an event we had in the past," Kwarciany said. "It was always a high point of the weekend and being able to bring that back really helps us with the nostalgia that we are trying to bring to this 50th year of racing.
The Bark River Off-Roads rely on communist support and support of sponsors the two biggest sponsors being the Island Resort and Casino and Race Driven.
"We want to thank all our sponsors," Kwarciany said. "We couldn't do this without them. They make this weekend possible."
There will also be a fireworks display on Saturday night as well as games and family events all weekend long so come out and enjoy the 50th Anniversary of the Island Resort and Casino Off-Road Rumble in the U.P. Presented by Race-Driven Polaris August 14-16.
