On May 9th, Escanaba High School hosted the 3RD Annual “Candy Swetkis SISU Strikefest” Memorial Softball Tournament. The Gladstone Braves captured first place with Escanaba coming in second. The SISU Strikefest is not only a quality tournament, but it's also a fundraiser for the Escanaba Girls’ Softball Program and the Candy Swetkis Memorial Endowment. As a proud, long-time Escanaba Junior High Science teacher, Candy wanted a scholarship to be awarded annually to an Escanaba senior who wanted to become a teacher. NORWAY — The Escanaba Eskymos came up on the wrong side of the scoreboard as they fell 5-3 to the Norway Knights here Tuesday. Norway jumped into the lead in the second inning as Tristan Lessor had an RBI-single and Landon DeBakker laid down a sacrifice bunt to score a run. Kellan Amundson doubled, scoring two and Elliott Kraemer grounded out to score a run. The Eskymos got on the board in the top of the third inning as Ashton Rymkos hit a two-run single and later scored on a RBI=single by Lennox Peacock to cut the deficit to 5-3. Registration open for Emerald 5K, 10K

MANISTIQUE — During Folk Fest weekend, the Emerald Chase 5K and 10K Run/Walk that takes place at the boardwalk on July 11 is raising funds for the Manistique High School girls’ varsity track and field team. Early registration with a discounted rate is available until May 31. The price increases on June 1. Medals will be presented to top finishers. Local businesses and community supporters are event partners. Racers may visit EmeraldsTrack.com/5K to register; prospective sponsors may contact emason@manistiqueschools.org.
