Eagles defeat Braves in volleyball action

RAPID RIVER -- It was a tough night on the court for Rapid River volleyball as they fell three sets to one against Stephenson here Monday.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 5-1 lead on a pair of aces by senior Addison Olson. Stephenson extended the lead to 10-2 on a four-point service run including on an ace by Cecilia Bell.
The Rockets did get back in the match as Alivia Frappier went on a five-point serving run including four consecutive aces to tie the game at 15 but never could grab the lead as the Eagles scored six of the last eight points to secure the first set win.
Alivia is our most consistent server," Rockets coach Katrina McNamara said.
In the second set, the Rockets jumped out to an early 6-3 lead. On an ace by senior Peyton Williams.
Aunna Havelka had a pair of saves to cut the Rockets lead to 17-16 but the Rockets closed out the second set scoring eight of the last 10 points.
"We still have things we need to work on," Eagles coach Jackson Miller said. ""Our serve receive really hurt us at times. We had some good passes at times but we still need to hone in on what we are doing because we aren't where we want to be but with work and time we can get to where we want to be."
The Eagles went back and forth with the Rockets in the third set as the game was tied 13 times before the Eagles put it away scoring the final five points of the set.
The Eagles closed out the win in the fourth as they took a 12-9 lead on a pair of aces by Olson to put the Eagles up 12-9.and never looked back as they took the fourth set 25-17.
The Rockets will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Carney-Nadeau.
