Dec. 22, 1984 — Doug Ingalls hit 21 points, leading the Gladstone Braves to a 72-59 basketball victory over the Manistique Emeralds. Joe Madden scored a season-high 15 points, including 12 during a fourth-quarter run, and Chuck Helman finished with 12. Dave Archer paced the Emeralds with 24 points and Chris Gonyea had 12.

Bob Rajala collected 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Rapid River Rockets defeated Rock Mid Peninsula 65-49. Kurt Spreen tallied 16 points. Darrell Cole led the Wolverines with 16 points and nine boards and Dean Koski added 12 points and six assists.

Rod Wells scored 18 points as the Powers North Central Jets topped the Stephenson Eagles 75-56. Gerald Whitens added 16 points and eight rebounds. Tim Stein scored 14 pionts and Tim Bilski had 10 in a reserve role. Kevin Peterson led the Eagles with 18 points.

Dec. 24, 1984 — The Escanaba Eskymos snapped a two-game losing streak, skating to a 4-0 hockey victory over the Ironwood C&M Oil Oilers. Jim Aird scored a hat trick and Rick Aird hit the remaining goal. Pat Goddard helped Esky post its first shut-out by stopping 20 shots.

Dec. 27, 1984 — Joe Pinar scored four times, leading Baron’s Bar past Wolverine-Stroh’s 7-5 in the Escanaba Men’s Senior Hockey League. Joe Sliva, John Hickner and Mark Gauthier also scored for Baron’s. Mike Murray and Kelly Shea hit two goals apiece and Jim Jensen added one for Wolverine-Stroh’s.

Dec. 22, 1989 — The Escanaba wrestlers remained unbeaten in three dual meets this season in a 52-15 conquest of Ishpeming Westwood. Andy Porath (103) and Soren Schmidt (119) recorded pins and Shawn Makosky overcame a 5-0 deficit to take a 13-7 decision from John Pruett in the 112-pound bout as the Eskymos gained a quick 15-0 lead. Eric Anderson also overcame a 5-0 to record a pin at 135. Joe Berube (152), Doug Sundstrom (189) and heavyweight Bryon Palmcook also won by pin and Chris Elie (140) won by technical fall.

Dec. 23, 1989 — Dave Elliott scored 18 points to go with 13 rebounds as the Gladstone Braves posted a 72-56 basketball triumph over the Ironwood Red Devils. Scott Creten added 15 points and seven assist and P.J. Rickard led the Red Devils with 32 points.

The Powers North Central Jets won for the first time this season, defeating the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears 65-53. Nick Arduin paced the Jets with 23 points and 13 boards. Rod Dalgord tossed in 16 points for the Black Bears.

Dec. 27, 1989 — Art VanDamme poured in 33 points as Gladstone McKnight Transport rallied from a 14-point, third-quarter deficit to upend Munising Dick’s Super Valu 86-81 in a Class E basketball opener in the Bark River-Harris Holiday tournament. Frank Hamilla scored 38 for Munising.
