Michael Thomas

GLADSTONE — Michael Richard Thomas of Gladstone, MI passed away June 24, 2026 at the age of 83. He was born August 24th 1942 in Detroit. He was the son of Richard and Katherine (Peters) Thomas.

Mike was raised in Dearborn, MI until 1952 when his family moved to Wells, MI where his parents owned and operated the Buck Inn. He attended Holy Name High School and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1964 during which time he worked as a hospital corpsman. Later, he graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in Medical Technology. He worked for 40 years in the Lab at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba until retirement in 2007.

Mike enjoyed many outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends at his “Camp Seamoor” cottage on Upper Michigan’s beautiful Garden Peninsula. For many years he collected antiques, coins and Marble Arms products. Mike will be remembered by his family and many others as a kind, good natured man even after surviving a stroke in 2022.

Mike is survived by his wife, Laura Thomas of Gladstone; daughter, Jamie Johnson of Gladstone; son, Ed Thomas of Nunica, MI; brother, Tom Thomas of Bloomington, MN; grandchildren, Danny, Chloe, Ike, Katie and Noah; great granddaughter, Lily; and former wife, Carol Thomas of Escanaba.

There will be a private family service and burial scheduled at a future date.
