Escanaba Speedway adding two to Hall of Fame on Saturday

ESCANABA — Escanaba Speedway will induct two drivers into its Hall of Fame on Saturday. Dick Cool and Boyd Widdis will be the 2024 inductees.

Cool began racing in 1954 and was dominate with a flat-head Ford before switching to Chevrolet in his later years. He was also known for Cool’s garage, where all the kids and young guys would go to see the race cars. The veterans would know him best for his success on the track. He was also always willing to let people who wanted to race get their opportunity with over 20 people driving his car in the 1950s and 1960s.

Widdis built his first stock car in 1962 at 14 years old with a 1949 Ford Business Coupe. He was a mechanic his whole life and was brand loyal wherever he was at the time. He was always willing to step up and help out. He was President of the Upper Peninsula Mud Drags Association in the late 1980s and helped revive Escanaba Speedway in 2010, then known as the Upper Peninsula International Raceway.

Starting at $3.50/week.
