DAGGETT — The thermometer in Daggett topped the 70 degree mark as the Stephenson Eagles faced off against Bark River-Harris in a baseball doubleheader here Monday. The Eagles came from behind to win the first game 9-8 and the Broncos defeated the Eagles 11-3 in game two.

In game one the Broncos got on the board as Carter Pach drove in two runs and reached on an error by the pitcher to put the Broncos up 2-0.

In the top of the third inning, Broncos junior Andrew Johson came through with an RBI-double to extend the lead to 3-0.

In the top of the sixth inning with the Broncos up 6-2. Johnson had an RBI-single to put the Broncos up 7-2 and later scored to make it 8-2. Johnson got on base all four times at the plate collecting three hits and reaching on an error.

In the bottom of the sixth, The Eagles scored seven runs on two hits highlighted by a two-run double by senior Chase Monette to cut the deficit to 8-6.

“I didn’t have the best game at the plate,” Monette said. “I knew the bases were loaded and I had to get some runs in and I saw a strike and just drove it.”

The Eagles tied the game at eight and won it as Chris Klein drew the game winning walk.

“We rely on our seniors a lot.” Eagles coach Keith Brief said. “We look for them to lead by example and Chase did a good job of that, coming up with a clutch hit to get us back in the game and our guys fed off it.”

In the second game, it was all Broncos after the Eagles took a 1-0 lead on a RBI-single by Parker Beal. The Broncos responded with six runs in the top of the second highlighted by a two-run single by Parker Motto and an RBI-single by Carter Pach to put the Broncos up 6-1 after one and a half innings of play.

The Broncos added two runs in the top of the third inning as freshmen Brock Brunette hit a two-run double to extend the lead to 8-1.

“The kid was throwing a lot of curveballs,” Brunette said. “I was sitting back waiting for the fastball and drove into the outfield and that was big because we needed to come back stong after what happened in game one.”

The Broncos defense came away with a big double play in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded to kill a comeback attempt by the Eagles.

“We gave up too many free opportunities in the first game,” Broncos coach Mick Reynolds said. “We had a good talk in between games and came out with a lot of energy in game two and kept that energy going throughout.”

The Broncos who faced Menominee Tuesday will host North Central on Thursday.

Starting at $3.50/week.
