HARRIS — After breaking three school records, Bark River-Harris senior Julia Olson signed her letter of intent to compete in track and field the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday.

Olson will enter the medical field as she will enter the university’s pre-physicians assistant program this fall. “Its a challenging field, but I’m excited to get started on this new journey,” Olson said.

Olson broke records in the 400 meter dash as well as the 800 meter and 1600 meter relay events. Olson finished in first place in the 800 meter relay in the 2022 and 2023 U.P. Finals. Olson and her teammates also finished first in the 1600 meter relay in the 2023 U.P. Finals.

“It is very rewarding to see her achieve this and move on to the next level,” Bark River-Harris coach Jason Lockwood said. “She has put in so much hard work both academically and athletically from time in the weight room to all the work she puts in the classroom she is just an amazing student and athlete.”

Olson posted personal best times of 1:01.2 in the 400 meter dash, a school record, and a time of 27.4 seconds in the 200 meter dash.

“I feel UW-Stevens Point was the best option for me on both sides academically and athletically,” Olson said. “I had a chance to visit the facilities and meet the coach and I realized this was the best spot for me.”
