Esky tennis ties, drops one

ESCANABA and KINGSFORD — The Escanaba Eskymos and Kingsford Flivvers tennis teams battled one another Tuesday and Wednesday this week, with the first match ending in a 4-4 tie and Kingsford taking the Wednesday match 5-3.

Between the two days, the Eskymos used a total of 24 players — which is two completely different lineups at the high school level — allowing athletes to gain more competitive experience.

“(The) kids played well and got some valuable experience,” said Escanaba coach Tom Penegor.

Kingsford fielded the same lineup for both matches.

Wednesday, Nathan Howes (No. 1 singles), Sam Rivera (No. 2 singles) and the No. 1 doubles team of Joe Hubert and Josep Montel were the three Escanaba wins.

Tuesday featured Eskymos Gunner Dlugas (No. 1 singles), Vincent Guindon (No. 4 singles) and the doubles teams of Isaac Maki and Dawson Williams at No. 1 and Trent Lyyski and Tristan McGuire at No. 4 earning wins for their team.

The Eskymos continue a busy week with matches against Menominee today, Iron Mountain Friday and the Negaunee Invitational on Saturday.
