Esky tennis shuts out Braves
ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eskymos got the better of a shorthanded Gladstone tennis team here Tuesday in an 8-0 victory over the Braves.
Isaac Maki and Ryan Moreau won the day’s closest match 6-4, 6-1 over Carter Hedman and Sean Sailer in No. 1 doubles.
“The first set was very competitive,” said Esky coach Tom Penegor. “Gladstone has some nice doubles teams. They have nice chemistry there. Those were nice wins for our team. Gunner (Dlugas) looked real good at No. 1 singles. Their kid (Rane Castor) is a nice player. The weather was decent at first, then the wind picked up and it became challenging. The kids did a nice job battling with our arch-rival.”
The Braves host Marquette today at 3:30. The Eskymos are idle until May 11 when they host Kingsford.
