Escanaba tennis beats Menominee 6-2

MENOMINEE — The Escanaba Eskymos made a clean sweep of the doubles here Thursday in a 6-2 tennis victory over the Menominee Maroons.

Ryan Moreau and Troy Delvaux rallied past Aden Laurin and Connor Coduti 6-7 (6-7), 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles,.

Isaac Maki-Dawson Williams posted a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Aidan Bellisle-Trevor Theuerkauf at No. 1.

Esky’s Gunner Dlugas took a 6-4, 6-1 decision from Felipe Zamora in No. 1 singles, and Nathan Howes dropped a close 7-6 (7-6) 7-5 decision to Brock Murphy at No. 3.

“The best match was actually one we lost at No. 3 singles,” said Esky coach Tom Penegor. “It lasted 2 1/2 hours and almost went into another tie-breaker. Everyone played better than we did at Kingsford (in Tuesday’s 8-0 victory). I’m happy to see we’re heading in the right direction.”

The Eskymos are competing in today’s Negaunee Invitational.

“Our No. 2 singles will be out, so No. 3 and 4 will be moving up,” said Penegor. “That will be good for our guys because it gives them a chance to play against stronger competition.”
