Wolves girls stay atop final UP poll
ESCANABA — It was Division 1-3 on both sides where the most movement happened this week in the recently released Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association U.P. basketball poll.
On the Boys Division 1-3 list, the top three spots remained occupied by Iron Mountain (13-0), Escanaba (13-2) and Marquette (9-3).
Bark River-Harris (15-1) dropped off the list from its fourth place last week and was replaced by Jeffers (16-1). Last week’s fifth spot, Westwood (8-5) also dropped off the list and was replaced by Menominee (7-4).
In Division 4, the list was unchanged: Ewen-Trout Creek (13-2), Munising (14-1), Dollar Bay (14-3), Rudyard (13-2) and Chassell (11-4).
Others receiving votes were Negaunee (12-2).
For Division 1-3 Girls, Menominee (11-0) moved up to first, pushing Sault Ste. Marie (12-1) into second.
Calumet (15-0) displaced St. Ignace (11-4), and Escanaba (10-4) held onto fifth place.
The first three places in Division 4 remained the same: Carney-Nadeau (17-0) — who also sat in first in the Associated Press Michigan Girls Basketball poll, Ewen-Trout Creek (14-1) — who took third in the AP poll — and Baraga (11-4). Cedarville (10-2) and Ontonagon (12-2) switched places, with Ontonagon moving up into fourth and Cedarville falling to fifth.
Others receiving votes were Rudyard (9-5) and Pickford (9-4).
