Munising at North Central

POWERS — The Munising Mustangs galloped over the North Central Jets Friday night with a 77-40 win in Powers.

“We did a lot of good things,” said Jets coach Mike Malone. “But we had a lot of mistakes for turnovers. We had a lot of turnovers. Just little things like, we’d get a defensive stop and knock the ball out of bounds or get a defensive rebound then lose it.

“We got beat in transitions quite a bit and getting beat on the dribble, they got to the rim on us a lot.”

Malone also complimented the performance of Munising’s Kane Nebel, who shot for 20 points with four 3-point field goals. Sam Brown and Jesse Duran each had 18 for the Mustangs, too.

Jesse Sampson led the Jets in scoring with 13 points

Carney-Nadeau at Stephenson

STEPHENSON — After a slow start, the Carney-Nadeau Wolves boy’s basketball team (0-2) came up short against the Stephenson Eagles (1-1) 57-52 Friday night in Stephenson.

“At the beginning of the game got down right away,” said Carney coach Paul Polfus. “We were down probably 10, 12, to nothing right of the bat. So, then we had to catch up.”

Polfus said trouble with shooting played a role in the Wolves’ loss but the game itself was still enjoyable.

“I think we struggled with our shooting again a little bit,” he said. “It was a good game and was back-and-forth. It was pretty intense, pretty fun, actually.”

Beau Koffman led the Wolves in points with 16 with Jerry Lee LaFord just behind with 15. Brayden Kakuk also put up 10 for the Wolves.

Carney will host Bark River-Harris on Tuesday.
