MARQUETTE — Brodey Bevins earned his 100th career victory here Wednesday night, helping the Escanaba wrestlers gain a 42-36 victory over the Bark River-Harris Broncos.

Bevins pinned Noah Gagne 90 seconds into the 152-pound bout, and Nick Carlson (285) sealed the verdict by pinning Alex Kern in 1:48.

“That was a fun duel, right down to the wire,” said Esky coach Jeff Wright. “Nick came up big with three good matches.

“We’re continuing to improve. We have things to work on, but the seniors are leading us. They’re a real solid group.”

The Eskymos opened with a 40-34 triumph over Gladstone, then blanked Marquette 75-0.

Kahler Geyer’s technical fall (17-0) over Blake Servant secured the decision against Gladstone.

“That was huge,” said Wright. “We wrestled well and had some improvement from the first time we wrestled them (in a 42-38 victory at Esky Feb. 13).

“They have a lot of good wrestlers. They don’t have a full lineup, but the kids they have are tough. Marquette is low on numbers and inexperienced.”

The Broncos, who lost a point due to unsportsmanlike conduct against Esky, defeated Gladstone and Marquette.

Gladstone, which beat Marquette in its finale, held a 30-5 lead over Esky after Hunter Solis (130) pinned Adam Reimer in 4:23.

Esky began its comeback in the next bout with Collin Arnt (135) pinning Logan Cox in 46 seconds.

All three area teams are on the road Saturday, with Esky visiting Munising, BR-H heading to Newberry and Gladstone traveling to Benzie Central.
