Whitmer takes 1st in beer run

GLADSTONE — Gary Whitmer became the overall winner of the first Decem-beer mile run here Saturday in eight minutes, 13 seconds.

Whitmer, winner of the six-ounce division, was followed by Chase Platte of Westphalia, Mich. (9:10) and 12-ounce champ Kevin Holmes of Escanaba (10:37).

John Vrancic of Escanaba won the age 65 and over division in six-ounce (12:32) and Mary Whitmer of Gladstone took the women’s half-mile in six ounce (6:51).
