Wolves fall in Wis.

PESHTIGO, Wis. — The Carney-Nadeau volleyball team finally met its match in Peshtigo Monday as the Bulldogs felled the previously undefeated Wolves in straight sets 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-21).

The Wolves (13-1) were on the back foot for most of the sets and couldn’t stymie the Bulldogs’ offense.

“Overall, we played pretty well,” Wolves coach Steve Kedsch said. “We’d seem like we got down six or seven points in the beginning, and we’d battle back. Then they’d just pull away again right at the end.”

The key, Kedsch felt, was control.

“The biggest difference was their serve-receive was better than ours,” he said. “They had a little better control, which in turn caused us to force our offense.”

Despite suffering its first loss, Kedsch is optimistic about the experience.

“This was probably one of the better teams we’ve played in the last few years,” he said. “They’re very solid in all aspects and well-coached.

“This is exactly why I wanted to have a match like this. Things that don’t show up in easy matches show up in tough matches against tough teams. This will allow us to know what we have to work on in practice.”

Liana Blahnik and Taylor Kedsch collected 10 kills apiece, and Ernest also finished with 18 assists, while Blahnik notched 16 digs. Mackenzie Walcher added 21 digs, and Mary Sivula earned 19.

Carney is idle until Saturday when it travels to a quad at Inland Lakes.
