Norse’s Rose finishes 13th

GRAYLING — The Bay College men finished 10th and the women were 11th among 13 schools in the Kirtland Community College cross country invitational here Friday.

Bay College’s Zach Rose, a freshman from Escanaba, placed 13th in the men’s eight-kilometer (five-mile) race in 28 minutes, 48.5 seconds.

Freshman Matt Sedenquist of Gladstone made his college debut by taking 44th at 31:36.8. He was followed by sophomore Alex Morehouse of Sugar Island (36:35.8), freshman James Alexander of Sault Ste. Marie (36:41.2) and John Stevenson III of Esky (50:02.6).

Grand Rapids C.C., which placed four in the top 10, won with 41 points. The Norse scored 264, followed by Kellogg C.C. 293, Kirtland 296 and Wayne State 377.

Joshua Kipkoech, a freshman from Kenya at Grand Rapids, won in 27:08.4

Sophomore Olivia Anderson of Menominee led the Norse women in 56th, covering the 5-K (3.1-mile) course in 32:45.9. Freshman Kaitlyn Miller of Trenary took 57th in her debut at 34:30.

The Grand Rapids women also won with 38 points. Bay had 287, followed by Wayne State 311 and Kirtland 318.

Grand Rapids sophomore Kiah Becker earned top individual honors at 21:07.1.

Bay hosts its invitational Saturday at 11 a.m. at Richer’s farmhouse in Flat Rock.
