Emeralds keep win streak going, up to 3-0
MANISTIQUE — The Manistique volleyball team continued rolling Tuesday with a 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-16) victory over Ishpeming.
The Emeralds (3-0) faced some unwanted pressure in the second set after winning their first by a six-point margin. Manistique fell behind, and nearly dropped, the second set to Ishpeming.
“We’re a pretty young team, but I felt like when we got down in the second set, we were able to refocus, fight our way back and then finish the game on top,” Emeralds coach Amy Nixon said.
“We were able to stick to our gameplan: taking care of the ball and getting our offense going. Our consistency down the stretch helped us in that game.”
Emma Jones notched four aces and 17 assists for the Emeralds, and Brooke Richey collected eight kills and six digs. Madison Zellar finished wiht 20 digs and two aces, and Kayla Muth got four blocks, six kills and an ace.
“Kayla Muth had a great game offensively and defensively,” Nixon said. “Emma Jones played well at the net as well getting our offense going. Her assists really spread the ball out to several hitters which helped them all contribute.”
Manistique hosts Gwinn Tuesday.
