NEKOOSA, Wis. — Syd Wells of Menominee Riverside Country Club recently won her sixth Wisconsin Golf Association Senior Women’s Amateur championship.

Wells shot 79-75 – 154 at Lake Arrowhead in Nekoosa earlier this week and finished five strokes ahead of Maggie Leef of Pewaukee, Wis. Wells parred the final five holes to secure the victory, after salvaging bogey with two crucial putts on the preceding two holes.

Wells is also the reigning U.P, Ladies Golf Association senior champion, a title she has won three times. She has also won 10 UPLGA championships.

Wells is a member of the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame and the Wisconsin Golf Hall of Fame.

She is a former president of the Wisconsin Women’s Golf Association, before it merged with the WSGA this year. This was the first tournament since the merger and the first tournament of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
