Local softball makes brief return Monday
RAPID RIVER — Despite a lack of official recognition, the Rapid River and Bark River-Harris softball teams got together for a seven-inning game Monday in which the Rockets triumphed 4-2 on their home field.
It was the first softball game played in Delta County this season after the cancellation of spring sports due to COVID-19.
Thanks to Natalie Belanger on the mound for the first four innings, the Rockets shut out the Broncos until the seventh. Belanger was also responsible for a pair of RBIs to help the Rockets gain their 4-0 cushion entering the final frame.
Esther Oswald gave the Broncos a chance in the final, rain-soaked inning with a two-run double, but BR-H couldn’t capitalize as CC Pilon earned the save for the Rockets in relief.
