HYDE — The Highland Golf Course, located seven miles west of Escanaba on US Highway 2, is proud to be hosting a four-person scramble golf tournament July 11 to raise money for the U.P. Honor Flight.

Event organizers encourage area golfers to come out to have some fun golfing and raise funds needed to provide future Honor Flight trips for our local veterans. The club hopes to be able to make a nice donation to the Honor Flight with the continued support of the central U.P.

The Highland Honor Flight Fundraiser will feature 18 holes of golf, donuts and coffee, lunch and flight prizes. There will also be skins, a silent auction, raffles and more.

The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. EDT. Golf cart rentals will be available for $30 per cart. Women’s, men’s, senior and combined teams are all welcome, and the ladies and seniors tee boxes will be moved up to “level the playing field.”

Entries are limited to the first 36 foursomes so gather up your golfing buddies and get a team together soon to guarantee yourself a slot! Registration forms are available at the clubhouse or can be found on the Highland website at highlandgolfclub.net. Download the entry form from the events tab.

Registration forms and payments are due by Monday. Entry fee is $240 per team.

If you’re not a golfer but still interested in supporting the U.P. Honor Flight, or if you’re a business owner and interested in donating a raffle prize or item for the Silent Auction, the Highland would welcome your donations. Contact Kathy (466-2791) for more information.

The tournament promises to be a great day of fun and relaxation while giving to a great cause. The mission of the U.P. Honor Flight is to fly Upper Peninsula World War II, Korean and Vietnam veterans to Washington D.C. to visit and reflect at their Memorials; memorials that stand in their honor. This “Tour of Honor” is provided at no cost to the veterans. Applications are being accepted from all veterans who served from 1941 to May 1975, whether serving during war time or peace time, stateside or overseas.

The Highland thanks everyone for their support. With local assistance, the U.P. Honor Flight will be able to continue these trips of a lifetime for our U.P. heroes.

For more information, contact the Highland (466-2791).
