Cubs rally for 8-7 win in Wisconsin

COLEMAN, Wis. — Riley Lamb smashed a big two-run single with two outs in the top of the sixth inning to help the Escanaba Cubs rally past Coleman, Wis. for an 8-7 road victory Monday evening.

The Cubs led 4-1 early before trailing 6-4 entering the sixth. Lamb’s two-run single put them ahead 7-6 before Brett Schlenvogt tacked on another RBI single to make it 8-6.

Coleman added a run to make it 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh, but the Cubs held on for the win.

Noah Lancour earned the win in relief after taking over for Lamb with one out in the fifth.

“It was a good comeback win for us putting up four runs in the top of the sixth,” Cubs manager Jon Bintner said. “That was when Riley had the big single, followed by Brett’s. So two great at-bats.”

The Cubs (4-1) host Menominee Wednesday.
