Shorthanded Jets rally past Stephenson, 60-44

STEPHENSON — The North Central girls basketball team pulled out a 60-44 Skyline Central Conference road win over the Stephenson Eagles Thursday despite the flu working its way through the roster.

After trailing 16-12 after the first quarter, the Jets outscored the Eagles 23-11 in the second to lead 35-27 at the half.

“In the second, we really hit on all cylinders,” Jets coach Lee Vincent said. “Alex Neville scored 10 of her 14 points in that quarter. We played really good tonight even though Andie (Arsenault) is still out sick. Everybody else kicked it up a notch.”

The Jets (10-5, 10-4 SCC) clamped down defensively on Stephenson (6-10, 6-6 SCC) in the third to take a 51-34 lead into the fourth.

“We all played really good defense even though it’s been tough to practice because we’ve had sick people for the last two weeks. I even pulled up a couple JV players tonight just in case,” Vincent said. “Everybody played great. We passed the ball well tonight, and we got rebounds (22). The only thing we had trouble with is turnovers (23). Everyone played with a lot of heart tonight.”

Bree Arsenault led the Jets with 16 points and three triples. Neville collected 14, and Chloe Webber chipped in 11.

The Eagles were led by Paige Cappaert with 10 points.

The Jets travel to fifth-ranked North Dickinson Monday.
