BARK RIVER — The Bark River-Harris Broncos did something Monday night that they haven’t done in two years combined as they scored five runs in game one which they lost 8-5 before being drubbed 16-0 in game two.

In the first game, the Knights scored first on an RBI-single by Owen Baij. The first of two hits in the contest each scored a run.

The Broncos tied the game in the bottom of the first as Chase Richer singled to score a run.

The Knights took the lead back in the second inning as Carter Cazzola scored on an RBI-single by freshman Tobi Anderson to go up 2-1.

The Knights added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning as Kellan Amundson had an RBI-single and Cameron Varda followed it up with a two-run double to put the Knights up 5-1.

The Broncos responded in a big way in the bottom of the fifth inning as freshman Caleb Davis reached on an error and Gabe Spear drew a walk to start the inning. Junior Andrew Johnson smashed a two-run single to right field to cut the deficit to 5-3. Carter Pach had an RBI-single to cut the deficit to one and David Kelloniemi grounded out to the shortstop to bring in the tying run.

“We are getting better every time out,” Broncos coach Mick Reynolds said. “We are a different team when Kaleb is on the mound and he has been really solid in that position for us.”

The Knights answered in the sixth inning as Carda hit a lead-off single then scored on an RBI-single by Elliott Kraemer and Owen Baij followed it up with an RBI-double to put the Knights up 7-5. Maddex Burklund singled to bring in a run.

Owen Baij struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth inning to preserve the win for the Knights.

Kaleb Desilets pitched well for the Broncos as he struck out six batters and walked four.

“It felt good out there today,” Desilets said. “My teammates made some big plays and we were right in this game.”

In the second game Varda was masterful on the mound as he delivered a no-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks.

“My defense made a lot of plays for me tonight,” Varda said. “My breaking pitch was also working very well for me tonight.”

Varda was also very good on the offensive side of the ball as he was 6 for 8 in the two games with three singles, three doubles, five RBIs and five runs scored.

“We ask a lot out of Cameron Varda,” Norway coach Tony Adams said. “He does a lot for us tonight. He catches six innings in game one, comes out and throws a no-hitter in game two as well as hits the ball well in both games.”

The Broncos return to action tonight as they face Marquette’s JV team.
