Minor changes in U.P. poll
ESCANABA — Next to no changes occurred in the latest U.P. basketball poll, released by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Monday.
One of only two changes to take place was the Escanaba boys falling from third to fourth in Division 1-3 after falling at home to Menominee last week. Unbeaten Iron Mountain is still the unanimous No. 1, followed by Negaunee, Marquette, Esky (10-5) and Westwood.
The Eskymos visit the Redmen Thursday in a game that will likely dictate the Great Northern Conference champion.
No changes took place in Division 4. Unbeaten Dollar Bay is still the unanimous No. 1, followed by Pickford, Rudyard, Rapid River (9-3) and Chassell. Carney-Nadeau (8-7) received two votes for the first time this season.
Everything stood pat in Division 1-3 girls. Unbeaten Menominee is still the unanimous No. 1, followed by Westwood, Sault Ste. Marie, Negaunee and Escanaba (9-5).
The second change occurred in Division 4 girls, as Baraga slid past Pickford for the No. 3 spot. St Ignace is still the unanimous No. 1, followed by Ewen-Trout Creek, Baraga, Pickford and North Dickinson.
