EBEN — The Mid Peninsula girls wasted little time taking charge in a Skyline Central Conference basketball game here Monday night as they romped past the Superior Central Cougars 63-22.
Mid Pen (8-4 overall, 5-4 SCC) led 23-4 after the first quarter and 35-5 at halftime.
“We came out firing,” said Mid Pen coach Phil Croasdell. “We were moving the ball real well and we moved well without the ball. The girls were talking real well on defense.”
Mid Pen senior Kennedy Englund recorded a triple-double, scoring 26 points to go with 12 rebounds, five blocked shots and 10 assists. Chevy Koski added 13 points and 11 boards and Daisy Englund had nine points and five steals.
“Kennedy had heck of a floor game and Daisy had a good game,” said Croasdell. “Daisy got the ball to a lot of people and Chevy, Allyson (Lancour) and Camryn (Croasdell) did well against their inside defense.”
Charlotte Charlebois, Emma Rutter and Elizabeth Molag hit six points each for the Cougars.
Mid Pen held a 50-20 rebounding advantage. The Wolverines grabbed 29 offensive boards, hit 27-of-71 field goals and committed 11 turnovers.
The Cougars sank just 8-of-42 shots and had 28 miscues.
The Cougars (1-11 overall, 0-8 league), who won the JV game, visit North Central Thursday. Mid Pen hosts Engadine next Monday.
