Jets snap two-game skid, beat Nordics
FELCH — The North Dickinson Nordics registered four players in double figures and led the game at the end of the first quarter, but fell to the North Central Jets 67-53 Monday night in Skyline Central Conference action from the Carl F. Lemin Jr. gymnasium.
Noah Gorzinski canned a game-high 18 points for the fifth-ranked Jets, who improved to 4-2. Luke Gorzinski chipped in 16 points.
Despite the loss, North Dickinson head coach Chris Mattson was pleased with the way his team played.
“I was happy with the way we played tonight,” Mattson said. “The tempo of the game favored us in the first half. We took quality shots and turned the ball love a lot less than our last game with only 12.”
Mattson noted that NC pressed most of the game, and that he felt his team handled it well. With the game a 25-25 tie at halftime, NC outscored the Nordics 22-7 in the third quarter.
“The game turned in the third quarter, and we didn’t recover from it,” Mattson said.
Brendon Donaldson led the Nordics (1-5) with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Maximus Mattson scored a team-high 17 points. Cameron Schultz added 11 points and five assists.
“Max penetrated well and played a solid all-around game,” coach Mattson said. “Justin Slage played very well on both ends of the court tonight.”
North Central, which also won the jayvee game, is off until Monday when it hosts Rapid River. The Nordics host Superior Central Thursday.
