Big Bay girls top Ojibwe Charter, boys fall

GARDEN CORNERS — Senior Meagan Yonker led the way for the Big Bay de Noc girls here Monday night in a 38-17 basketball triumph over Bay Mills Ojibwe Charter.

Yonker collected 11 points, 10 steals and seven rebounds in the Northern Lights League contest. Alix Bleau added nine nine and nine boards and Camryn Pederson had eight points.

The Black Bears (5-2 overall, 4-0 NLL) trailed 8-7 after the first quarter, but led 19-10 at halftime.

Gracynn Durrance grabbed 11 rebounds for Big Bay, which finished with 49 boards, including 23 on offense.

The Big Bay boys weren’t so fortunate, as they fell to the Eagles 51-26.

Big Bay (0-7 overall, 0-4 league) trailed 28-11 at halftime.

Travis Johnson scored 12 points for the Black Bears, who host Hannahville tonight.
