Bay women fall on the road

LACROSSE, Wis. — The Bay College women’s basketball team was handed their first loss of the season here Saturday, falling to Western Technical College 74-45.

It was a rough day for the Norse (2-1), who turned the ball over 29 times and were outrebounded 44-29.

They also struggled to shoot it, hitting just 10 of 21 free throw attempts while finishing 32.7 percent from the field and 15.8 percent from three-point range.

The Norse trailed 34-21 at the half and watched things slip away even further in the second half.

“We had some very patient offense in the first quarter that led to some scores and when they stepped up their pressure, we didn’t handle it well,” Norse coach Rob Robinson said. “The best thing about a game at this point in the season is that we can learn from it and step up in a tough situation later in the year.”

Kelsea Ackerman was Bay’s lone bright spot, finishing with 14 points while hitting three triples. No other Norse player scored more than five points.

Makena Gabel led all scorers with 18 points for the Cavaliers. Lindsey Murphey added 13 points and Caitlyn Young scored 10.

Bay hosts Lake Superior State’s jayvee team Sunday in a recently added game for its home opener. The Norse then host UW-Green Bay, Marinette Monday.
