EDITOR: My name is Todd Chouinard, I am a retired detective from Escanaba Public Safety, and I would like to announce that I will be voting for Prosecutor Lauren Wickman. I have had first-hand experience working side by side with her on many of my cases and witnessed her excel in this position. Delta County is very lucky to have such a hard-working, dedicated and humble person working to keep the community safe. I have not heard of a single law enforcement officer in Delta County who would have something negative to say about Prosecutor Lauren Wickman. I believe all of them, if ...

Proposal 3

EDITOR: I am writing regarding the October 18 Daily Press coverage of the League of Women voters forum with the state senate candidates. On Proposal 3, Dave Prestin was quoted as saying “What alarms me on Proposal 3 is it is going to strip parents of all of their rights regarding parental consent, overseeing their children on reproductive rights, sex change operations, puberty blockers, …” The Press article then corrected his statement, saying “Proposal 3 does not mention minor children, gender affirming surgeries or puberty blockers.” If you read the Proposal, it does ...

And get this, the State of Michigan will have to pay the postage. What do you need to register to vote in Michigan? Something as simple as a utility bill with your name and address on it. Fear not though, Prop 2 on the ballot, if passed, would allow you to simply sign a statement saying you are who you say you are, or you can provide a photograph Identification. It’s quite the season for voting already, but it will be made even more ...

Response to letters

EDITOR: This letter is to set the record straight in response to a couple of previous letters. First, I am rerunning for Delta County Commissioner in District 4. As most know, when one of the five commissioners cast a vote, it effects the entire county. I stand on four principles and have voted as such for 12 years with no compromise: U.S. Constitution, property rights, individual freedoms and; financial stability for the county.  I’ve been accused of not attending some advisory committee meetings. These aren’t county board meetings, but committees that the county board has ...

Theresa worked for the Delta County Community Action for 33 years. In that position she was Director of Retired and Senior Volunteer Programs which consisted of 4 Counties, including Delta, Menominee, Schoolcraft and Marinette, WI. In her position on the Board of Commissioners, Theresa welcomes phone calls with any of your concerns or questions. In the event she is unable to answer, please ...

EDITOR: We are writing this letter to show our support for Kelli VanGinhoven for Delta County Board of Commissioners in District 4. Kelli has attended numerous county and city meetings, and has become very knowledgeable in the running of those meetings. Kelli is compassionate at working with the Board of Commissioners and wants to bring everyone together to work for a common goal. Please color in the circle beside Kelli’s name and vote for Kelli on November 8th. Carole and Bill Charon Escanaba
