Response to letters

EDITOR:

This letter is to set the record straight in response to a couple of previous letters. First, I am rerunning for Delta County Commissioner in District 4. As most know, when one of the five commissioners cast a vote, it effects the entire county. I stand on four principles and have voted as such for 12 years with no compromise: U.S. Constitution, property rights, individual freedoms and; financial stability for the county.

I’ve been accused of not attending some advisory committee meetings. These aren’t county board meetings, but committees that the county board has established to receive public input. Even though a commissioner is assigned to each of these committees, they are only advisory to the entire board of commissioners. I work out of town and cannot attend all, but receive all correspondence from these meetings and am one of five who will decide if any resolution or recommendation moves forward. Also, commissioners are paid mileage and get a per diem to attend these meetings. This has a significant financial impact on the year-end budget. I’d rather have that money available in the budget to use for public service needs, than in my pocket. I’m proud of the fact that I’m the lowest billing commissioner regarding this issue.

As to my ethics and the individuals who have donated to my campaign. I believe there are very few candidates who don’t accept financial help during a campaign. I make decisions based on the four above core values that I hold dearly. I don’t vote on issues based on who donates to my campaign. I believe they donate to my campaign based on my core values that I will not deviate from. Interesting enough in District 4 my opponent is running as an independent with the slogan “not right or left” but is being endorsed and supported by the Democrat Party, really!

I believe my record stands for itself: I made a motion during COVID restrictions to adopt a resolution that the Delta County Board would not put any restrictions on businesses or individuals in Delta County, this resolution passed. I also passed a resolution for Delta County, that the board would not restrict the 2nd amendment in any way. The 2nd amendment has nothing to do with hunting. I fought to reject numerous submissions of the planning commission’s solar ordinance until it didn’t restrict property or individual rights, so a less restrictive ordinance passed. I voted in favor of a county ordinance not to restrict windmills but to allow them under a logical ordinance that recognizes environmental concerns, and adds revenue to the county coffers that are used to support many important programs within our county. The adopted solar ordinance will also allow economic development within the county and bring in revenue, so there will be no need for any requested tax increases or a millage for important services.
