Incomplete information

EDITOR: Over the past three years nationally, and locally we have been subjected to countless examples of incomplete information, purposely attenuated to cause us to complete the thought. This is evidenced by such statements as “Trump is an existential threat to our country”, but you aren’t told why and left to wonder just what “existential” means. “CO2 will cause the end of life on earth in a few years” and locally a letter from Sheree Annear (1/5/23) stating (regarding campaign donations to Dave Moyle) “Was he promised this money if he voted a certain way?” and ...

Backing county board

EDITOR: I had to roll my eyes at the most recent liberal attack on our county commissioners in Sheree Annears Letter to the Editor in the Jan 5 paper. Sheree and her cronies are certainly following the principle “If people see it and hear it enough, they will eventually believe it to be true”. It all started when our conservative county commissioners, specifically Dave Moyle, Bob Petersen, and Bob Barron swept the elections last November. Right after losing to Dave Moyle, Kelli Van Ginhoven wrote letters to the editor multiple times a week, complaining about how the board was being ...

County board

EDITOR: Commissioner Moyle is a man of many words. Many words that lack truth, transparency, and follow-through. After hiring Ms. Young as administrator, he said, “I wanna hire Jean Healy to be our junior administrator.” Not once has this been discussed. What would be in the job description? When would this take place? What happened to this position? Commissioner Moyle also recently stated, “I’m no more unethical now than I was 10 years ago.” Did you know Commissioner Moyle sat as a voting member of the Delta County Planning Commission when Heritage Sustainable Energy was ...

Robert’s rants

EDITOR: Last month, columnist Robert Reich went off again on the evils of the GOP and his favorite target, Donald Trump. In an earlier column, he encouraged Blue voters to move to Red states so they could vote against Trump there. What? He even blames the media and Democrats (oops, I repeat myself) for not going hard enough on the GOP. For Reich, Biden is not too old — our President who cannot walk or talk. Biden has one advantage — far superior to his VP Harris. It appears that the Dems may be replacing the President this summer to get telegenic star, California Governor Newsom on ...

Deer hunting deeply ingrained in U.P.

EDITOR: This letter is response to a letter written by Diana Peach that appeared in the Daily Press on November 30th. In her letter, she expresses her hated of deer hunting and the killing of these animals. I’m eighty two years old and have deer hunted for sixty five years. My favorite months of the year are October and November. Planning, preparation add to the excitement as November 15th approaches. My family established our deer camp over forty years ago and we spend as much time at camp as possible. Shooting a deer is secondary to all the other joys that deer hunting brings. ...

County board questions

EDITOR: There have been many questions brought up by the public at county commission meetings that have gone unanswered. Here are a few: 1. The commission approved an easement change request for Rory Mattson affecting the public 1,400 acre Cornell Forest. The DNR notified Chairman Moyle that this easement change violates the terms of the grant used to purchase the property, putting the county at risk of having to repay the $956,200 grant funds. Why would you approve a change that comes at such a great risk to the county? 2. Over an 11-year period, Rory Mattson, on behalf of the ...
