Misleading headline

EDITOR:

On February 29th, 2024, the Escanaba Daily Press published a completely misleading headline. It stated “77% local vote goes to Trump”. The reality is Trump received 51% of the vote. There were 6,695 votes cast, Trump received 3,590 of them. Keep in mind, Biden is basically unchallenged so a lot of Democrats did not vote. Trump is being challenged by Nikki Hayley, who received almost 20% of the vote.

As the article states, the general atmosphere suggests that strategic voting (Democrats/Republicans voting in a different party primary) is less than normal. Which by definition means Democrats stayed home because Biden is unchallenged while Republicans showed up to vote for someone besides Trump.

Local reporting matters and the Daily Press’s faux headline is problematic. This is neither fair nor accurate.

Regardless of party, vote. We have a really important special election coming up in May for recalls of county commissioners in Delta County. May 7th to be exact. Every vote matters. Michigan now has no reason absentee voting so use your voice, use your vote. Educate yourself on what actually matters to you instead of the faux outrage and misinformation and disinformation.
