Notice should have been given for tree cutting

EDITOR:

I live on M-35. Last week I went out to get the mail and discovered MDOT had cut down and chipped 13 mature trees on my property.

I had received no advanced notice this was coming, not even a knock on the door on the day of the destruction or a chance to use the wood for my own purposes.

These trees greatly improved the curb appeal of the property. It would have been nice to make my case to keep them. MDOT says they don’t do that and it’s up to property owners to contact MDOT. Guess I have to read minds. Pretty heavy handed treatment of the people they are supposed to be serving.

I’d like to vote out the road commission board, but I see they run unopposed on the most recent ballots.

If any non-incumbent with an iota of empathy for the public were to run next time, I can assure them of one vote. Oh, and if Governor Snyder thinks he has my support for a tax increase for his road department, he can “fugetaboutit.”
