Medicare fraud active in area, region
We trust that a front page story in Wednesday’s Mining Journal relative to what appears to be the latest fraud being perpetrated on local people caught readers’ attention.
The story detailed a growing trend of Medicare fraud in the area and region. Marquette Police Department officers issued this advisement:
“The Marquette Police Department would like to make residents aware of an uptick in reported Medicare fraud incidents locally,” Marquette Police stated in a news release. “Medicare beneficiaries have reported fraudulent billing for durable medical equipment they never requested, received or needed.”
Further, the department noted that Medicare beneficiaries should closely examine their Medicare Summary Notices for inconsistencies and report any suspicious activity to 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or online at Medicare.gov (Reporting Medicare fraud and abuse).
The Marquette Senior Center can also help with this and can be reached at 906-228-0456.
Take the officers’ advice. If you see something, say something and report it. That’s the only way this kind of nonsense will get stopped.
