ESCANABA — Road construction on Ludington Street reached new levels today as the portions cordoned off to traffic were expanded to include the main street’s sixth block, where the Daily Press makes its home.

Large-scale improvements to the city’s water and wastewater infrastructure are underway. The work is a continuation of major projects that began last year.

Though vehicles are unable to drive down Ludington Street, sidewalks and front doors remain accessible and open.

Visitors to the Daily Press are advised to park on the side of the building — on North Sixth Street — and walk to the front door at 600 Ludington St.

In addition to chunks of Ludington Street and some of conjoining side streets off of Ludington, there are also other areas in town where construction work has closed streets to traffic.

To help answer questions from residents and business owners about construction timing and alternate routes, the City of Escanaba is hosting an informational meeting at City Hall at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. City staff and engineering staff from C2AE will be providing information on the ongoing projects.

Similar meetings, meant to be general informational sessions about the year’s water and wastewater projects, will continue to take place the first Wednesday of each month.

Starting at $3.50/week.
