Mock court trial for Holy Name middle-schoolers
ESCANABA — Eighth-grade students from Holy Name Catholic School will participate in a mock trial experience designed to bring their learning to life at the Delta County Courthouse on Thursday morning.
“After the eighth grade students studied the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights in their American History class, and while reading To Kill a Mockingbird, this experience will serve as a meaningful culmination of their studies this year,” explaiend Holy Name Middle School humanities teacher Meaghan Jensen. “I developed the mock trial process with the generous and invaluable support from former attorney Jacquelyn Rahn, who worked closely with me to craft a fictional case and guide students through the process.
“Through this immersive experience, students will step into the roles of attorneys, witnesses, and bailiff — applying their knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills in a real-world context that ties together the themes and concepts they’ve been exploring all year. We extend our sincere thanks to Judge Economopoulos for hosting our Holy Name eighth-graders and helping make this experience possible.”
